Sevenoaks 3-1 Colfeians
On a fairly narrow and longish pitch which was boggy after another night of rainfall game one was always likely to be a real test against opposition who had outclassed Oaks at the opening Kent Waterfall fixture and so it proved in a real toe-to-toe contest. The girls really delivered what had been worked on in training and it was particularly pleasing to see them win the rucking contest against opposition that had dominated them in this aspect at Folkestone. Support play was excellent too and the result was well deserved. There was no player on the pitch not doing a job which as we all know is the main ethos of rugby!
Libby, Georgia and Niamh all scored tries to take the game 3-1 which showed real character especially after going one down early doors and this great result took the girls into the final to see who would be crowned champions of Kent.
Sevenoaks 6 Ashford 2
The final kicked off after a long wait of a couple of hours or so against Ashford who had dispatched Old Colfeians relatively comfortably. After five anxious minutes Ashford took the lead after pouncing on a loose ball on the left. Erin nearly broke through the lines to equalise and then Maddie tantalisingly got to within 5 yards of the line before being illegally blocked and despite a penalty try looking to be the correct decision she bagged her first of the final anyway from the resulting penalty. Just before the close of the half Maddie bagged a second again from an Oaks penalty. In the second half Niamh showed Oaks intention with a fierce tackle that bundled the Ashford player into touch just shy of the line. A determined and hard running Maddie then bagged her hatrick again being fed by Vivian playing 9 and again from a penalty – what a performer and hopefully her dad will reward these 3 tries! Ashford then came back into it with a well worked team move and despite another fierce tackle this time from Anne-Marie right on her own try line the Ashford player just managed to touch down to make it 3-2. Jaime then added two tries in quick succession down the right wing running it home well and again there was no stopping her – well done! Erin, not to be outdone, then found a great angle to run it home well in trademark style to take the final 6-2 against battered and bruised yet very spirited opposition!
Congratulations to all of the squad and all of the coaches and all those that played today: Jaime, Erin, Vivian, Georgia, Maddy, Libby. Scarlet Imogen, Chloe, Niamh, Anne-Marie, Grace, Heidi and Eleanor. It has been a real pleasure to watch the team evolve this year – not only are they a friendly and inclusive group they can really play when it matters! CHAMPIONS.
