On a cold and blustery day the U13 girls Kent Waterfall competition kicked off on an elevated pitch in a picturesque spot overlooked by rolling hills.
Sevenoaks 5 Medway 0
In the opening game a depleted Medway were loaned three Oaks players in the first half and two players in the second half so well done to all the players who switched as this won’t have been easy! Libby opened the scoring on the left where there was a big overlap and shortly after Erin doubled the lead on the opposite side. Eleanor then rampaged through on the right byeline despite being tackled by Heidi (one of the players loaned to Medway) to take the first half 3-0. In the second Heidi who was now back on the Oaks side finished off a good move running it home well before Erin then added the fifth from similar range to seal a comfortable win.
Old Colfeians 4 Sevenoaks 1
There was some real intensity to this game as two top teams went toe to toe. OC’s started on the front foot and Oaks were doing magnificently well to hold off wave after wave of attack until OCs got through the lines. The second try was a little easier after a great run by OCs’ star player who was full of running all day and a third try soon followed again with ease as OCs took the half 3-0. Oaks battled back well in the second half as Imogen made a fast break from deep on the left but, not to be outdone, OCs star player then rampaged through again to seal the game 4-1.
It was great to see a good comeback in the second half which Oaks drew 1-1 but there is no denying that OCs deserved this win playing the conditions well with short accurate passing and enjoying a good platform by winning the lion’s share of the rucks.
Sevenoaks 4 Old Aleynians 0
In match three Oaks returned to winning ways as Erin ran it home with speed and purpose on the left before she added another shortly after - this time down the right! Imogen then herself found a gap down the left and then a great step fooled the Old A’s defence before she ran it home. Anne-Marie then smashed one of OA’s bigger players with a thumping tackle on the left touchline and although she was on the floor for a couple of minutes the OA player eventually got back up on her feet. Naimh also bundled the opposition into touch on at least two occasions – great strength! Imogen then sniffed out a loose ball expertly in a breakaway and sped to the line to take the game 4-0.
Sevenoaks 5 Baa Baas 1
In the final game Oaks had lots of territory but there was not enough passing on show to take advantage as at least two overlaps were there for the taking. Imogen then sniffed out the first after a Grace and Maddie combo stole the ball in a ruck and she powered over the line on the blindside. Niamh then added the second from close in with a good step near the line and Erin then fed Eleanor to make it 3-0. Imogen and Erin then added two further scores on the left before the Baa Baas got a consolation to end the game 5-1.
All the girls played a great part today and a shout out in particular to Jaime for being a vocal captain, Libby for some back-row-esque tackles in the midfield and Georgia and her mum for some more great cakes! Well done to all the coaches too.
