On a long strip of a pitch Oaks played some great rugby winning two back-to-back games at Old Beccs.
Sevenoaks 10 OAs/Beckenham Baa Baas 1
Sevenoaks started the first game on the front foot and almost immediately a strong run from Eleanor broke the deadlock. Maddy then got try number two after some good passing then Jaime touched down from close range shortly after before a well-executed turnover led to Erin scoring try number four. Maddy then got her second of the day running it home from a tap penalty before a clinical Erin scored another three tries (!) and Oaks sealed the half (8-0) with the last score down the right following a good sidestep. In the second half Oaks (weakened by a Maddy injury which she managed to shake off) took a bit of breather but still managed to run in two tries, first Imogen down the right channel and finally Vivian in the opposite corner with the OAs/Beckenham Baa Baas getting a consolation to make the final score 10-1.
Old Beccs 4 Sevenoaks 11
In the second game Jaime scored the opener running it home strongly and shortly after Eleanor doubled the lead with another good run from 20 yards before the home side scored their first after a good drive from close range. Libby then scored the try of the day speeding down the left flank before changing direction and wrong footing the home defence following a great step(!) and then Jaime and Erin added to their tallies with tries four and five. Beccs then scored their second after waves and waves of attack (and it was great to see some committed tackling and defence from Oaks despite this) before Libby increased the lead. Anne-Marie then broke through the lines only to be pulled up for a handoff* and then told off for smirking by the rather picky ref! Maddy, Libby, Vivian and Niamh (the latter with two strong scores from close range) took Oaks’ tally to an impressive 11 before the home side scored two consolations - one tap and run from a penalty and an arguable *late score at the death to leave the final score 11-4 to Oaks.
Honourable shout-outs to Imogen in the backs who assisted a good number of tries and Georgia who did some very good driving.
*There was a strong suspicion that the ref seemed to be looking to even things up near the end!
Well done to every one of the girls – a great watch and a fantastic team effort with forwards and backs all scoring tries – there was some decent defending on show and the Old Beccs game was particularly impressive as they were a step above the Baa Baas team yet still outclassed. Apparently both opposition coaches and the ref congratulated Phil for the performances and well done to Phil for coaching and refereeing the final game when everybody scarpered!
