On a sunny autumnal morning the U13 girls kicked off their first match of the season away at Dorking. With 4 quarters played over 40 minutes there was some high quality rugby on show with each girl assigned a position in this 12-a-side match on a wide pitch.
The game started off with the home side on the front foot and it seemed that Dorking’s bigger unit would overpower Oaks until Imogen broke the deadlock running it home well. Anne-Marie then secured her try bonus (!) by easing it in from the wing and it wasn’t’ long until Erin added number 3. Dorking then attacked and their player seemed to be home and hosed when she dropped it over the line but the try was allowed somewhat dubiously! Erin who was full of strong running from the left wing all day added the fourth before 2 quickfire tries followed – first when Imogen ran in well after being fed by Libbie and then when Imogen then returned the favour to Imogen after the restart. Maddie and Heidi put the icing on the cake with well taken tries to take the tally to 8 (both from close range) and although the home side managed 2 consolation efforts - one from their start player from deep - this was an outstanding display.
Apologies that I only included the actual tries as every one of the girls played their part in a great team effort – with a particular shout out to Niamh for some crunching tackles and Vivien for playing her part (with touch rules due to being a year below the age group) too. The forwards put in a battling display against some big girls and this was great stuff to watch. Well done all!
