Academy Boys Assistant Coach

 

Overall Purpose:

Sevenoaks Rugby Club is seeking an Academy Boys Assistant Coach for the 2025-26 rugby season.

 

The successful applicant will join us during the summer of 2025 as part of our wider academy coaching team, contributing significantly to the delivery of our Academy Boys Programme, which includes training one evening a week and training/matches on Sundays and other times as required to deliver the role.

 

This role will report directly to Howard Packman, Academy Head Coach and will work closely with Adam Bowman, Director of Rugby, and Mark Reay, Head of Academy Boys Rugby, to deliver a cohesive and effective programme.

 

Context:

The Academy Boys Squad comprises players from U16, U17, and U18 age groups. The objective is to create an environment that is:

•       Professional: Setting high standards for development, behaviour and performance

•       Developmental: Preparing players for adult rugby, university life, and beyond.

•       Successful: Winning County and National competitions while ensuring we provide an equal experience and opportunities to all abilities.

•       Progressive: Producing players who will contribute to the Senior Men’s Squad at Sevenoaks RFC.

 

Essential Skills, Experience & Responsibilities:

 

To succeed in this role, the candidate must possess:

Coaching Expertise:

•       Significant hands-on coaching experience with Youth, Academy, or Adult rugby teams.

•       Relevant coaching/teaching qualifications.

•       Extensive rugby knowledge and best-in-class coaching practices.

•       Ability to design and deliver structured training sessions tailored to the squad’s needs.

•       A proven ability to innovate in coaching methods and techniques.

 

Stakeholder Management:

•       Strong skills in building and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders

•       The ability to communicate effectively and diplomatically with all parties to ensure alignment and a cohesive program.

 

Performance and Fitness:

•       Fit enough to lead active and intense sessions on the field.

 

Communication and Motivation:

•       Exceptional planning and organisational skills.

•       First-class communicator who can articulate a rugby vision to players and other stakeholders.

•       Inspires and motivates players while showing empathy for their development journey.

 

Club Engagement:

•       Embrace and uphold the One Club ethos.

 

Additional Desirable Experience:

•       Current or previous playing experience at a high level is highly advantageous, preferably levels 2-4.

 

Remuneration:

Competitive monthly retainer available for this position and will be discussed during the interview process.
