Sunday saw the U15s head to Camberley to face two cluster groups: Camberley and Southern Surrey Belles. This was the latest round of the South East U15s cup competitions.
With two teams short of players and one team with an excess of girls, it was agreed to borrow players, to ensure all matches consisted of 13 girls.
In their first match they played the Southern Surrey Belles, a very established cluster group. Sevenoaks were rusty, as they had not played competitive matches since November 2015. After a slow start, and a couple of tries down, they fought back to score in the second half. Final score 14 – 5 against. Scorer: a borrowed player from Camberley.
The second game followed immediately after, due to failing light. Playing against Camberley, another cluster group, this was a much more even match. Being focused, the girls pulled together to form a series of superb tackles, by Sally, Natasha, Lucy, Georgia L, Georgia P, Izzy, Katie and breakaways by Ellie O’S. One try down, Lucy took the opportunity to find space and run 3/4 length down the pitch to score a terrific try. Not being satisfied with one try and the girls stopping further attempts by the opposition through more great tackling, notably Lucy & Sally, Georgia L - quick to notice another gap - took the ball and was unstoppable in securing a second try. Praise also to Immy and Josie, who - either on the back or at the wing - were providing back up support when needed. Final score – 10 – 7 for. Scorers Lucy Fitzmaurice (1) and Georgia Lane (1)
