Sevenoaks Rugby 28 – 41 Westcombe Park RFC
Westcombe Park enjoyed a compelling victory over Sevenoaks Rugby at Knole Paddock after a 20-minute surge from half-time put the visitors in the box seat to run out 41-28 victors.
The crux it felt was the mid way point. With the Oaks 14-7 up as the two teams headed to the sheds, for the half time break, the referee called play back for an off the ball infringement by the Oaks scrum half – who was duly sent to the bin.
From the ensuing penalty the Park full back Toby Wallace romped in under the posts for a try converted by Nathan Wyman. The complexion of the match was rather different at 14-14.
Park quickly delivered in the second half when Wyman dotted the ball down for a try that he then converted. There followed 17 unanswered points by Park in the form of two tries and a penalty to give them the 41-14 ascendancy.
Try as they might that was it for the Oaks for an extended period of play.
The navy and golds stayed in the game and thanks to their tenacity, secured the first of two subsequent tries, in the shape of David Ruffai making a brilliant break and going in under the posts for a try that Ben Adams converted, before Charlie Corrigan struck an inside line thanks to a well-worked move that saw him go under the posts. Adams again slotted the conversion. Oaks then tried to keep breaking out from their half but credit to Westcombe Park for the quality of their defence. Park ended on to win by a 41-28 margin.
What a great testament to the quality of Kent rugby at a sunny Paddock and kudos to both sides for the great match.
