On a bright Sunday morning at St Marks, 7Wells U14 girls played their first Waterfall League fixture of the season against Tonbridge Juddians (TJs), cheered on by around 80 spectators on the 1st XV pitch.
With an 18-strong squad — many making their competitive U14 debuts — 7Wells showed real determination and teamwork in an entertaining match refereed by TWRFC.
TJs started strongly, crossing for two unconverted tries in the first twelve minutes. 7Wells responded well, with Sophie racing through for their opening try after 16 minutes. TJs added a third to stretch their lead, before Rosie finished off a fine team move under the posts just before half-time, converted by Nella to close the gap to 12–15.
The second half continued at high tempo. TJs struck early with a converted score, but 7Wells kept pressing, rewarded with a try by Lottie on 38 minutes to narrow the gap to 17–22. Sustained pressure near the visitors’ line followed, but TJs held firm and countered to score their final try.
The final whistle marked a spirited and skilful contest, with 7Wells showing strong breakdown work, quick recycling, and plenty of promise for the season ahead. It was the first ever full rugby match for several debutants — Mae, Mary, Millie, Orla, Phoebe, and Victoria — all of whom impressed with their commitment and enthusiasm.
