The Sevenoaks u18 girls with their cluster partners Tunbridge Wells and Old Colfe’s played Alleynians Beckenham Combined (ABC) in a Kent league match on Sunday. Iona kicked off the match and ABC started a demonstration of the skill that would go on to win them the match: keeping the ball in hand and recycling rapidly from every breakdown, they patiently inched their way down the pitch through over 20 phases to score within 5 minutes of the start. The Blues woke up and started making a good contest of the midfield and after 15 minutes, Laura gathered the ball on the left hand side behind mid-way and galloped down the touch line to score, with Iona converting. Despite valiant efforts and some frantic tackling in midfield, ABC went on to score twice more before half time to make the score 7-17 at the break.
ABC scored three tries rapidly after half-time before Charlotte W carried the ball strongly down the left wing and in the quick recycling, Iona found a gap and accelerated through to score under the posts and then converted her own try. ABC scored two more converted tries before Amy and Charlotte W made great ground moving strongly through tackles for Mary to score in the corner. ABC finished the match with another try to make the final score 19-53.
Our line out was working beautifully through out and the scrum was strong but there are definitely some things to work on before the girls play Basildon next week.
