Round 3 of the U13 Girls South Eastern Competition
Sevenoaks were confident going into round 3 having remained undefeated after 7 games. This week they faced teams from Surrey, Kent, Essex and Sussex.
Game 1
Sevenoaks met Worthing in their first game with a degree of caution ,as they had been heavily beaten when they met a year ago. Choosing to keep possession tight and play from the breakdown Sevenoaks scored 3 quick tries which put to bed their initial fears. As they grew in confidence they moved the ball out wide and allowed the pace of the backs to dictate the game. Worthing were overwhelmed as Sevenoaks tightened their grip and ran out eventual winners scoring 14 tries without reply. (try scorers Jones 3, Rabbitt 1, Davies 5, Roff 2, Sellors 1, Owen 1 and Clark 1).
Game 2
A third meeting with Sutton and Epsom who had run Oaks close on the two previous meetings. Sevenoaks were camped in the Sutton half from the off. Great tackling kept Sevenoaks away from the try line until Jones through grit and determination forced the defenders back, pushing and pushing and being driven to the line by the rest of the team until she went over. In the second half Sutton desperately sought a way through but superb defence from the whole team saw out the half without score. Final whistle Sevenoaks 1 Sutton and Epsom 0.(tries Jones 1)
Game 3
Saw Sevenoaks face an unknown opposition in Eaton Manor Gales who had travelled from Essex. A well drilled team the opposition had a solid defensive unit and very fast backs. Sevenoaks were under presuure from the start and had to dig deep to match the opposition. This game saw the girls putting into practice the offloading skills taught in training with quick ball resulting in the first try for Oaks by Davies. The opposition responded immediately to make the score 1 apiece but 2 further tries saw Oaks 3-2 up at half time. In the second half a sustained onslaught saw EMG score another try to level the match but 2 further tries from Sellors and Roff in the closing minutes sealed a hard fought victory for the team. Final whistle Sevenoaks 5 EMG 3.(tries Jones 1, Davies 2, Roff 1 and Sellors 1)
Game 4
Sevenoaks took on the hosts Medway. At this stage all the teams were tiring. Rabbitt broke the deadlock with a try that had started from the Oaks half and had involved six of the team running and passing into space. Medway had some dangerous players and Oaks had to dig deep in a game where both teams were shattered. Gaps began to appear in the Medway defence and were ruthlessly exploited by Davies and Jones with Rabbitt and Roff also adding to the total. Final whistle Sevenoaks 8 Medway 1 (try scorers Davies 3, Roff 1, Rabbitt 2 and Jones 2).
Another superb team performance from Sevenoaks scoring a total of 28 tries to 4 conceded.
