THIS WEEK AT SEVENOAKS RUGBY

It’s another MASSIVE weekend for Sevenoaks Rugby this week.

Click on the ‘+’ below to find the detail

SATURDAY 9TH APRIL

  • It’s been a big week at training for the senior squad ahead of this week’s away fixture against Maidenhead.

A bonus point win will see them crowned league champions with a game in hand.

Let’s get behind our boys and send them all our support - in person or visually.

  • The Under 5s are training at home this week on Saturday morning

SUNDAY 10TH APRIL

  • The most senior adult squad take to the pitch this weekend against old foes, Westcombe Park, in the Kent Cup Final at Maidstone this Sunday.

Having narrowly lost to Combe in the dying moments of the match in the 2020 final (possibly the last game of rugby in the country before the 1st lockdown), the Mighty Acorns will be looking to reverse the result.

The squad has plenty of Mini and Youth coaches on show, so come and support this wonderful team!

Kick off is at 1600 - come along and show your support!

    COME ON YOU OAKS!

  • This weekend is the penultimate training of the season for the Minis and the last before a short Easter break.

I’m sure the Coaches have lots of fun games in mind for all our minis.

  • The Under 12 Boys have an exciting bit of variety this week at an East Grinstead 10s festival.

The Under 15 Girls are away this week with a friendly against T Wells and also some girls at Kent Trials.

The Under 13 Boys are enjoying a trip to the coast this weekend to play against Hastings on Sunday.

  • The U13 Girls, U14 Boys, U15 Boys and Academy Boys and Girls are all training at home on Sunday.

LAST WEEK HIGHLIGHTS

Last Sunday saw the Oaks Minis participate in the Westcombe Park Festival. I had the pleasure of being able to wander around and see some of the age groups and it was clear that the kids were having great fun and playing some brilliant rugby! Check out the Photos below.

There were a couple great matches and results in the Youth section with the Under 15 boys beating Medway 39-21, the U16s winning 57 - 3 at Tonbridge Juddians and the Academy Girls winning a friendly against Old Alleynians.

PARENT FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • Sevenoaks Rugby asks all parents of Mini players in the U5s, 6s, 7s, 8s and 9s to remain on site and pitch-side during training and matches. Only by exception can they be absent and then they must nominate another adult to take responsibility for their child and inform the relevant coach and the player.

We find that some players in these groups can get upset if they are left alone and sometimes need emotional support from a parent or adult they recognise.

For parents of Mini players in the U10s and 11s that do not remain pitch side they must inform the coach and the player and remain contactable (or nominate another adult to take responsibility).

  • Padded headgear / scrum caps has never been approved or marketed by World Rugby or the RFU to reduce the risk of concussion and there continues to be no conclusive evidence that wearing headguards reduces the chances of sustaining a concussion while playing or training.

Wearing a headguard should be the personal choice of the player and/or parent. While a headguard can provide some protection (e.g. covering the ears) and confidence (e.g. when introducing players to contact); there is a possibility that wearing protective equipment could potentially change a player’s behaviour (i.e. making them over confident and thus neglecting correct technique and risking further injury to themselves or others). Therefore, players and coaches are encouraged not to neglect correct technique, particularly in the tackle and ensure that players are aware of the purpose of headguards and their limitations.

We recommend that players talk to their coaches about the relative confidence of their child, when deciding whether a headboard is appropriate for them.
