Sevenoaks Rugby15 – 10 Worthing RFC
Sevenoaks toughed out a battling 15-10 win over Worthing with all the Oaks points coming from the trusty boot of Ben Adams.
This was attritional rugby at its very best and the packs from both sides put in proper shifts. For Oaks the two Simmons at props presented a very solid foundation for the home side tackling everything in sight. While Charlie Naismith when he arrived off the bench for the Oaks front row delivered impressive impact to the Oaks catch and drive, which was the weapon that secured the territory and pressure and ultimately penalties that enabled Oaks to win.
In the first half the play of the match arrived when the Worthing centre Harry Forest scythed through Oaks and under the posts for a try that Josh Bellamy converted. Worthing then sieged the Oaks line and somehow Oaks managed to hold out for the teams to head into the sheds with the scores at 0-7 to the away side.
The second half was a topsy turvy game of territorial kick and chase dominated by the half and full backs. Oaks with the wind at their backs more than held their own. After an exchange of penalties inside the first ten minute of the second half, first with one to Oaks and then with one to Worthing through Bellamy.
And so it as that in the final quarter Oaks drove at Worthing and three penalties from Adams on the 60, 74 and 78 minute marks edged the home side home.
