Sevenoaks RFC Senior Squad travelled to Wanstead RFC on Saturday for the first of their pre-season matches. In perfect conditions for rugby, the match was played across four 25 minute quarters. Both sets of coaching staff were able to interchange players throughout and try various combinations, with Oaks running out eventual winners 51-31 in a high scoring encounter.
After the match Head Coach Adam Bowman was clearly pleased with his sides showing, commenting ‘After eight weeks of training, it was really good for the boys to get out there and have a hit out against a good, physical side like Wanstead. I thought we grew into the game and towards the end, played some really entertaining rugby. Of course there is lots to work on, but overall it was a good start and gives us a solid base to work from.’
Oaks pre-season match schedule continues this weekend when the Squad travel to Old Colfeians, who fell just short of London 1 South safety last season. ‘Next week gives us a chance to go again and introduce more squad members into the mix. We’ve have had large numbers at training throughout the summer, so it’s important that we give as many players as possible some match action. Colfes will be a really good test for us as they will be at level we expect in our league this season and the challenge for the players now is to ensure they go up a level this week in training, as the league is just around the corner.’
Sevenoaks RFC Senior Squad are in action this weekend when they travel to Old Colfeians RFC for their second pre-season match. Kick-off is at 3pm.
