A letter from Trevor Nicholson, Chairman, Sevenoaks Rugby was published in The Times on 18 February 2020 extolling the importance of rugby’s amateur foundations.

A lead article that featured in The Times on 14 February 2020 by former England international Stuart Barnes prompted the digital epistle. Mr Barnes outlined a bleak future for the professional Club scene in England in reference to the Premiership’s financial concerns and reduced RFU funding for the Championship.

Sevenoaks is a grass roots amateur Club through and through and our Chairman was compelled to write in support of those playing the game for fun and fulfilment in front of a crowd who enjoy that spectacle for free, in the knowledge that the majority of our opponents elect to field a fully paid playing staff £100s per player per match. All in complete consistency with League regulations, of course.

Sevenoaks Rugby Club is proud to plough a different furrow!
