This Sunday 11 September sees the Savills Family Membership Day grace the Paddock. More than 500 minis and juniors are expected to start their season with their first training sessions.

Last week saw a number of age groups ‘ease’ their way into the season with 350 mins and juniors blowing off the cobwebs at the Paddock, but this week sees the opportunity for families to sign up to become 'Mighty Oaks'.

Director of Rugby Roger McKerlie commented ‘The Senior Squad kicked off the season last week and now it is the turn of the mini and junior section to start their season with a bang!  This Sunday is probably the busiest day of the year with over 500 mini and juniors expected to be here, so it takes a lot of organisation by our Head of Junior Rugby Danny Jones and a number of other key volunteers to make sure everything runs smoothly.’

‘We are also grateful to Savills, our main sponsor, for their contribution to the day – they will be providing free tea and Mighty Oaks coffee so all the family members should be well hydrated!  Diane will also be doing her usual excellent spread of bacon rolls and porky whites and Colin will have the bar open, so it should be a great day and one I’m really looking forward to.  We will also will have some of our Senior Squad members and coaches coming down to provide a helping hand to some of the age groups so a day like Sunday is when we really do live and breathe our One Club ethos. ’

Ahead of hundreds of minis and juniors descending on Plymouth Drive, new Head of Junior Rugby Danny Jones is clearly buoyed by the prospect of welcoming new ‘Mighty Oaks’ saying  ‘Sunday gives us an opportunity to welcome back familiar faces and also some new ones.  The offering is for age groups from Under 6’s up to our Academy team (Under 18,17,16) and we have a growing girls section who are going from strength to strength so we really are here for all the family.’

Danny continued ‘We are extremely grateful to Savills for their support on the day.  They will have advisers here as well so it is a great opportunity for the parents and families to take expert property advise whilst the younger members of the family are receiving expert coaching.  The mini and junior section is the lifeblood of our Club and it will be great to see as many faces down here on Sunday to celebrate the opening of our season.’

The Savills Family Membership Day begins is on Sunday 11 September at the Paddock.  Parents and players are advised to arrive in good time to be ready to train from 10:00am, parking as ever wil be at a premium. And arriving early allows plenty of time for a bacon sandwich!
