To One and All,
The new season approaches with alarming rapidity, so I thought it was an opportune moment to trust that everyone has summered well, and is looking forward with a cocktail of anticipation and trepidation to the next eight months.
Team sport in this country is under huge pressure at the moment in terms , not just of participation numbers, but also the whole ethos of what ‘team’ sport is and its merits. It’s a bigger issue than the everyday matter of running a National League Club, but it forms the background of all the challenges we are facing across the sport. So this is just a message to wish everyone well in the battles ahead, playing, administering, supporting, sponsoring, mowing and pouring pints. To be part of ‘National League Rugby’ is something we should all be proud of, and rest assured we are doing everything we can as an executive group, to gain greater respect for levels 3 and 4 across the sport as a whole, while encouraging all of you, to take the responsibility of promoting the game to the widest possible community.
‘One and all’ may be a proud motto from Cornwall, but I hope Redruth won’t mind if in this case, we can roll it out to Tynedale, North Walsham, Guernsey and all our 56 member clubs. With a collective will to work together in celebrating and driving forward the semi-professional game, let’s hope this will be a vintage year for National League Rugby.
Best wishes to you all
John
