Sevenoaks U12's travelled to Canterbury where we took both our A and B teams. A freezing cold morning in the depths of Kent saw Sevenoaks take on the might of Canterbury.

The A team match was as physical as it comes. Our hosts looked to play very direct route one rugby through their very big forwards and try to punch holes through us. A real test of character ensued with Oaks having to dig deep to grind out a 3-2 victory.

The following boys represented the A team:

Baker,  Gilbey,  Millet,  Smith,  Killick,  Kitchen,  Wilson,  Avery,  Box,  Brooke,  Gollan,  Hewitt, Johnson, Maynard, Parker, Pearl,

The B team briefing focused on commitment, teamwork and making the all important ‘early hit’, and the boys delivered.

The following boys represented the B team:

Daly, Hedger, Latrobe, Satrettin, Skein, Thomas F, Thomas L, Blackmore, Alexander, Burgess,
Ebsworth, Francombe, Holden, Lay, Lenaghan, Rumsey, Shoobridge, Waller

A storming first half left the hosts trailing 1-5 at the interval. Two from Skein (both from a well worked penalty move), a sniping scrum half try from Blackmore and a try each from Lay and Holden put the Oaks in command. Rolling subs meant all players were involved equally throughout the match and the performance never dipped.

The second half was a little harder with the hosts scoring three tries to Sevenoaks’s five but Canterbury were never really in the game. Forwards maintained pressure and the backs used the ball well to create numerous chances

Tougher games will follow in the Kent’s next week but this was a great performance against a disciplined side.

Try scorers: Skein (3), Shoobridge (3), Lay (2), Blackmore, Holden
