U15s are crowned Area 3 Regional Cup Champions 2018!

The Sevenoaks/Tunbridge Wells U15 cluster known as the A21’s yesterday secured a hard-fought victory over rivals Eton Manor to become the RFU Area 3 Regional Cup Champions.

Both teams came into the game unbeaten which set up what was a thrilling game of rugby that really showcased the girls game.  The game itself ebbed and flowed with some good solid forward play supported by quick ball through hand running rugby and individual pieces of skill supported by solid team play.

The final score of 36-17 reflecting what a fast-paced and exciting game it was for all those privileged enough to watch it.  The game was played in the true spirit of the game with fantastic displays of sportsmanship from both sides, the referee, who it has to be said had a great game commented on how much he had enjoyed the encounter.

Following on from this success the A21’s now progress to the National semi-finals which will be held on the 15th April at Royal Wootton Bassett RFC.

A special note of thanks to Old Elthamians who kindly hosted the day, providing first class facilities and excellent hospitality.

Congratulations Anna, Aoife, Catherine, Kate, Lillie, Millie, Olivia, Scarlett, Tori, Zoe!

U13s enjoy Medway festival with Sheppey 25 March 2018

Last Sunday saw our U13s travel to Medway to join forces with Sheppey in a festival celebrating younger aged girls rugby.

This gave our girls another opportunity to train with same aged girls and play a series of matches against various more developed teams.  The Sheppey coach kindly commented on how spirited, strong and impressive our girls were on the day.  So much so that we will be looking to play together again - either this season or the next!

Well done to Amy, Eleanor, Jamie and Jocelyn

U18s join forces with Tunbridge Wells v Hove 25th March 2018

With only a few players available this weekend, we joined forces with Tunbridge Wells in one of their final matches of the season.  Here's a copy of the match report from TWells:

U18 won 66-5 with a some help from two of their Oaks mates in the shape of Lucy & Sally.  I caught the some of the second half and the interplay and support was as good as any coach could wish for.  The score doesn't give the full story, as I saw a spell of strong defence where Hove/Worthing were throwing everything at the Wells line, but the girls defended perfectly.

U51s (A21s) WIN the second regional semi final

Last Sunday our the formidable A21s continued their success in a tense semi final versus Sutton & Epsom. Both teams played remarkably, with a score of 5-5 it remained anyone's victory.  It was down to the last few minutes where Tori scored the winning try, sending the girls to the final next weekend at Old Elthamians versus Eton Manor for the regional final.

Only sad occurrence was an A21 player - Rosie - getting knocked unconscious.  I have had news that after a throughout check, she is alright, but will be off as per concussion guidelines.

As one of our coaches put it "this was the toughest rugby I've seen U15s play ever!.

Well done and congratulations to Anna, Aoife, Catherine, Kate Lilly, Millie, Olivia, Scarlett, Tori (5)!

A few Sundays ago saw us travelling to the coast to brave freezing winds and lots of rain showers.  Delighted to have had several girls from each age group representing Sevenoaks at this girls festival.  Some great action during the mixed training sessions and proud to say all girls mixed well with their assigned team mates for the round robin matches that followed.

U15s/A21s take control of regional match

Last Sunday saw yet another dominant performance by our U15s/A21s squad (with TWells) at the regional cup competition match at home v Horsham, with a 50-0 victory.

Solid skill and teamwork led to this incredible result.

Kudos must be given to the Horsham players, coaches and parents who not only played on in good spirits, but never gave up in determination to continue the opportunity to gain valuable match experience and cheer on their team.

Well done to Oaks girls: Anna, Aoife, Catherine, Kate, Lilly, Millie, Olivia, Scarlett, Tori.

4 of our U18s braved the freezing winds to enter the Kent Cup Competition.  Sadly we did not have enough for a team on the day so joined up with Tunbridge Wells and Thanet to have the opportunity to play.  Both teams put in formidable performances, however were outplayed on the day by strong opposition.    Well done Jess, Lucy, Phoebe and Sally

19 November update

Today all age groups were away at Beckenham; joining with girls from other clubs for training and friendly matches.

U13s: joined with Dartford and came up against some stronger teams but kept going in the face of adversity.  They enjoyed it as they had an easier match 3, where they were able to score a few tries.

U15s linked with Old Colfs enjoying the ability to play in a larger team as we had several girls away at a Kent match. They immediately got stuck in with their temporary team mates.

U18s: mixed with a host of clubs to play a 14-a side match against Medway.  Our girls played against much bigger girls and held themselves well.

All girls came away smiling at the end of the day and the coaches all agreed it was great to see the girls making new friends and playing to their strengths.

Both our U13s and U15s travelled to Dartfordians in the next round of the Kent cup competition.

Our U13s had further opportunities to train with girls from other clubs, which followed friendly matches. Well done Amy, Eleanor and Jocelyn

Our U15s joined T Wells as the A21s cluster group and faced Dartfordians.  A formidable performance put in by all the A21s really gave the opposition no where to go.  With a final score of 73 (A21s) - 0 this cluster is definitely a force to be reckoned with.

This day gave lots of girls from various clubs the ideal opportunity to get stuck in and play some great rugby.

Well done Aoife, Catherine, Lillie, Millie, Scarlett, Tori and Zoe

5 November U18s match report

Today our girls played  AWAY at Beccehamians in the next round of the Kent cup competition.  Joined with some girls from Beckenham, they faced an older and well disciplined cluster team of Beccs & Old Alleynians.

After a slow start and a few tries against them, our girls started to defend well with some great tackles against this formidable team.  However, with the result of 37 Beccs/OAs - 0 7oaks/Beckenham our girls came away smiling and tired, but not defeated in spirit.

Upcoming training will enable them to work on some weaknesses identified as well as continue to build on their strengths.

Player of the week: Fran for a sterling effort at one of her first matches away this season.

Well done Diana, Fran,Jess, Katie, Katie, Lucy, Phoebe and Sally

Our dedicated coaches Paul, Christopher, Tommy and Mark all got stuck in at 8:30 this morning, as part of our club initiative to share and filter down a consistent coaching methodology.  Fun to see them in their shorts n boots running, tackling and passing the ball with around 30 other club coaches from all the age groups.

All geared up to introduce new training for our girls! thanks guys!

22 October match report

Today saw our girls from all age groups AWAY at Dartfordians to attend a Pitch up and Play / Festival, which allowed the girls over an hour of competitive rugby.

I heard our 4 U13s and 5 U15s got well stuck into their mixed group of players.  Even though there were a few minor injuries the girls enjoyed themselves and continued until the end of the day.

We had 6 under 18s from Sevenoaks and were supported by 4 players from Ashford under 18s who were a credit to themselves. The Sevenoaks girls applied themselves whole-heartedly to every game, bar the first five minutes of the first game. Great lines of running, clearing out and continuity play were evident all day. I hate to say it but they all seem to have enjoyed themselves and were fairly happy with the way they played. We also tried to play a type of game play with a fair bit of consistency.  The girls played five matches with the following results.

Darts 4  v SOaks 3

T/Wells and westcombe Park 2 v SOaks 3

Darts/ Beccs 0 v SOaks3

Thanet/ Old Colfs / Beccs 2SOaks 3

The last game saw us play a well drilled and committed Medway team. The girls again played really well and showed no signs of fatigue and battled all the way. the could have won but lost out by a last play try by Medway.

Well done to all girls!

Today gave our U15 girls the ideal opportunity to train and play matches as part of the A21 cluster group with TWells against Sutton& Epsom and Hove.  I was told our girls mixed in well and played some formidable rugby by one of the TWells coaches.

Some of our U13 and U18 girls joined in the day too, through mixed training and friendly Tri-angular matches.

A good day all round!

8 OCT update: Play to your strengths

Yesterday gave us the opportunity to host U13, U15 and U18 girls from Folkestone, Westcombe Park and Tunbridge Wells for a joint mixed training session followed by friendly matches. The training gave us all an ideal opportunity to focus on age group specific skills and drills.  Mixing up all 10 coaches from the various clubs offered the 50+ girls another voice and coaching style too.  Where possible we kept to club during the matches, however inevitably we mixed up some girls from clubs to ensure every girl played the match.

Friends and family had a pleasant afternoon in the sunshine too.

A good day with the exception of one of our players being injured right at the end.  Happy to report she is at home recovering with no broken bones.  We all wish her well and hope to see her on the pitch again very soon!

This afternoon our U13, U15 and U18 girls enjoyed a variety of skills sessions, drills and friendly matches led by a range of coaches from a number of clubs at Aylesford.

This pitch up and play (PUP) was run by both the RFU and the Kent RFU with one aim in mind:  getting as many girls enjoying rugby as possible.  With a wide range of skills on the day it a pleasure to see our girls be great ambassadors of the club and the sport as they allgot stuck in and worked well with their combined teams of the day.
