Sunday 24th Sept report

U13s enjoyed a great morning training session dedicated to them. Focussing on rugby fundamentals with particular emphasis on contact.  Our new assistant coach Tom got stuck in pretty quickly too! Hannah, Jocelyn, Jamie, Cully, Felicity, Alice, Amy, Dot, Eleanor (and our new U18 - Diana)

U15s/cluster with TWells had a great session 'smashing' Aylesford/Ashford 65-10 in their cluster match.  Looking forward to an exciting season. Well done all girls!

U18s faced an experienced team of strong players in a match against Thanet.  Our girls were nervous about this match, and it showed.  Some great running and tackling though with our girls, as ever, working together towards the end.  Thanet 20 - Sevenoaks 10.  Georgia L, Ellie S, Sally (5), Jess, Lucy (5), Maddie, Katie L, Katie K, Fran, Georgia P, Phoebe.

10th September report

Our U18s trained at home and our U13s/U15s went to TW to face Ashford.

U13s: The girls did some useful contact warming up then played some great rugby under the watchful eye of our very own Paul McDaid.  Good work from new and old alike with some solid passing and running down the pitch.

U15s: The girls ran ragged over Ashford beating them 31-10 with 5 tries split across the clustered Oaks & Wells girls, with some solid conversions by Katie.  Given the number of ex/trialling Kent players we have, it was always going to be good and the newer members of the squad certainly added some more quality to what is looking like a formidable team.  Fine teamwork girls!

bring on 2017/18

Sunday 3rd September saw lots of girls and coaches - old and new alike - all dusting off their boots and enjoying passing and tackling drills.  Great to see and meet new members of our rugby family and of course the smiling yet tired girls at the end of the session.  Looking forward to seeing everyone on Tuesday 5th at 6 pm for fitness, games and a bit of theory.

Girls toughest tacklers at Saracens Rugby camp

5 SRFC girls attended the Saracens rugby camp which gave them 2 full on days of pre-season training.  Dusting the cobwebs off their mighty oaks kit the girls enjoyed drills involving passing, rucking, touch and contact matches.  A few of the coaches commented on how impressive their tackling skills were.  Well done Catherine, Ellie, Jess, Sally and Zoe.

Bring on the new season!

#INNERWARRIOR event success at SRFC

On Aug 23rd 18 girls, ranging from the ages of 9 – 15 all found their #INNERWARRIOR at Sevenoaks RFC.  We were delighted to see a wide range of girls on the day; from beginners, to club players, to county and regional players alike: all working together and having fun whilst learning and/or enhancing a variety of skills. All agree the DISCO TOUCH Rugby was by far the best and most exciting game of the night. Glow in the dark headbands are definitely making a comeback!

We would like to thank all those that joined us on the day and look forward to welcoming our girls back to SRFC on 3rd September for kick off of the new season!

U15s enjoyed Uckfield visit Sunday 26th

last Sunday saw our U15s visit Uckfield to join them and Hove in a 3-way match.  Unfortunately Sevenoaks had smaller numbers, so were happy to be split up between the two teams to form a 13 a side match on the day.

Some terrific running, tackling and of course lots of tries scored by our girls - who thought it fun to tackle eachother in opposing shirts!  well done Anna Jones, Catherine Davies, Katie Kelly, Phoebe Leach, Sally Williams and Sasha Petrie.

U15 Girls fought a tough match in Plate Semi Final!

with guest coach TK (thank you!) our girls found fierce opposition in Thurrock/Rochford at last weekend's Area 3 U15s Plate semi final.  Facing an unbeaten scrum front line they were able to retain the ball a few times and pushed through the line to score two tries; one of which was a fantastic run half way down the pitch by Maddie.  A further conversion gave us a total score of 12. Our girls put up a strong defence against Thurrock/Rochford, who proved too much in the end scoring a total of 45.  In the face of some physical and verbal challenges our girls held their own and were a true credit to SRFC - in particular Jess; you know why :-).

The team consisted of: Maddie Bryan (5), Kate Crudgington, Olivia Crudgington, Catherine Davies (5), Katie Kelly, Phoebe Leach (2), Sasha Petrie, Jess Richards, Ellie Schwemm, Sally Williams

skills & drills in the frost!

Our U13s and U15s braved the freezing cold last weekend to visit Tunbridge Wells for a shortened training session which included lots of skills in drills.  Excellent opportunity for U13s girls to start working alongside the TW U13s in their newly formed Barbars team!

U15s end the year in a tough match against Ashford

One final challenge this year for our U15s proved to be a tough end to the year.  Against a very formidable Ashford team, our U15 girls put in a solid performance, some excellent tackles and passing down the line.   A well deserved 3-week break lies ahead - see you in the new year!

U15s put up a strong opposition against Aylesford

Another Area 3 cup competition match saw us going to Aylesford, in what was expected to be a tough match.  Our girls jumped ahead by scoring two tries within the first 15 minutes, leading 10 - 0.  Aylesford were soon to reply, by scoring two tries themselves and converting a kick.  Sevenoaks were not to be defeated., having scored another two tries they led again.  Aylesford came back even stronger and scored more tries in response.  Towards the end our girls seemed to run out of steam,  making a few silly errors, ie. not picking the ball up and running into the middle; which ultimately gave Aylesford the opportunity to score two more tries, winning 39-29.  Great efforts  put in by all and some brilliant moments of team work!!  Sevenoaks girls: Anna, Beth Catherine (15), Ellie, Fran, Jess, Katie (5), Lucy (5), Maddie B, Maddie R, Phoebe (4), Sally, Sasha

U15s Soar to victory against Dartfordians

What a way to start the cup competition! Our U15s girls - old and new alike put in a very impressive team effort, resulting in an amazing 54 - 0 victory over Dartfordians.

With possession pretty much throughout the match our girls were able to pass the ball down the line resulting in a few breakaways. Good tackling, rucking and some solid passes enabled several of our girls to get those vital tries in.

There were also numerous examples of great team work and clinical rugby (to quote a spectating coach); one example was Charlotte pop passing the ball to Catherine, enabling her to score. Special mention must also go to Lucy for trying something new and getting a couple of the conversion kicks over - not easily done.

Kudos to our new girls for stepping up to experience their first match - Beth, Jade and Maddie - with the final two scoring tries.

The match lasted a total of 50 mins (30 mins first half, 10 min break, then 10 mins of the second) at which time the match ended as Sevenoaks had reached/passed the total score of 50.

Our team consisted of Anna, Beth, Catherine (20), Charlotte, Ellie (5), Fran, Jade (5), Katie, Lucy (14), Maddie B (5), Maddie R, Sally (5), Sasha

U15s and U18s put in sterling effort at Kent trials

Some of our U15s and U18s put in a strong performance at the Kent trials yesterday.  Congratulations to Anna, Lucy and Sally who are on this season's Kent U15s.  Good luck to Catherine and Katie who are on a call back.

Kent coaches came to me and commented how impressive Phoebe, Maddie, Elspeth and Josie were.  Sadly this was not meant to be their year - but who knows what the future may hold!

The club is proud of all our girls for giving it a go!
