Sevenoaks Rugby Under 12s Blues won the Cup at the Foxbury Festival last Sunday, the sixth year running this formidable squad has beaten all comers at the Old Elthamians tournament. At the Medway Development Festival, where several players made an impressive debut for Oaks, the Sevenoaks Rugby Under 12s Stormers were Cup Runners-up.
The Blues took a match to get into gear at Foxbury. A laboured 2-0 opening win versus Old Alleynians in the Group stage was followed by wins against Old Colfeians (2-0), Old Elthamians (4-0) and Dartfordians (5-0). The match versus Colfs was pick of the bunch, and featured the best team performance with good continuity and strong attacking lines.
These four wins set up a Final against hosts OEs who had won their Group in some style. The match - a repeat of last season's Kent Cup Finals at this year group - was a credit to both sides, played in great spirit even though neither side gave an inch.
Solid defense characterised the opening plays. Oaks then struck with an excellent counter attack from deep in their own half. In the second half Oaks were relentless and after a lot of pressure closed the game out with a try in the final seconds to win the match 2-0 and bring the Cup back to the Paddock.
The Stormers at Medway played incredibly well. There were no easy games and wins of 2-0, 1-0 and a 1-1 draw in the Group secured a berth in the Final versus Aylesford Bulls.
Oaks were down by two tries from early in the Final. The Stormers then rallied and fought back to 2-1, which was the final score at the end of a great contest and a great day.
At the Paddock the lads enjoyed an energetic home training session under the watchful eyes of the coaches as well as Oaks 1st XV centre Shayden Osgood, extending the Bowman school of coaching to the Under 12s. And needless to say the boys took to it with gusto.
