Go well Zak!

Good luck to our very own Zak Skinner, currently in Paris waiting to take part in the 100m race and long jump event, both in the T13 category.

Zak who is now 25, came through the club from minis and juniors through to the Academy with his twin Barnie. This isnโ€™t his first Olympics, having previously competed in Tokyo.

He won bronze in long jump at the 2023 World Championships and started his career at Tonbridge Athletic Club.

We wish you all the strength in the world and know that we will be shouting at our screens for you - thatโ€™s surely got to be worth a few tenths and some extra centimetres in the sand!!

Zak will compete this Sunday and on the 7th September.

*****

Zak Skinner came an impressive 6th in 100m with a time of 10.97 seconds (get him on the ring!) and goes for gold in tomorrowโ€™s long jump. ๐Ÿ’ช

New Committee Appointment!!

We are delighted to announce that Nick Thompson has joined the committee as vice chairman. Nick played a very high standard of rugby when at school, uni and in his earlier working years in Hong Kong.

When Nick returned to the UK he raised his family in the Sevenoaks area and was instrumental in taking two of his boys through the mini, youth and academy set up. He was head coach of the age group that reached the National final which included Ben Earl and many of our current 1st XV squad.

โ€˜Nick will be an excellent addition to the management board both on the rugby and commercial side and we are delighted to have him join usโ€™ says chairman Steve Fitzmaurice. โ€˜Thanks for stepping up Nick!โ€™

Nick has been involved with many clubs over the years, including Otley, Durham and SG Valley as well as Hong Kong China Rugby โ€˜Iโ€™ve been part of the Sevenoaks rugby community for many years now and have seen the fantastic progression the dedicated committee, volunteers and most importantly the players have made! I look forward to playing my part in continuing that development for many years to comeโ€™

Player Registration - 2024/25 Season

Player registration is an important part of becoming a member of Sevenoaks Rugby Club. This year, the onus is being put upon players and parents of younger players to complete the registration - the club is no longer able to register members.

This is creating a number of queries and questions and we thought it might help to point you towards the self help area of the RFU as a starting point. If you are still unable to resolve any issues you might be having, please do escalate it to your age group lead in the first instance.

We have lost a stalwart of rugby and Sevenoaks RFC

It is with great sadness that Sevenoaks RFC announce the loss of an important member of our rugby family. Robert Hornerโ€™s commitment to our club and the game as a whole was incomparable.

Robert has held many esteemed roles within the rugby world, as former President of Kent County, an RFU Council member and President of the RFU in 2003, when England won the Rugby World Cup. Robert was Chairman of Sevenoaks RFC from 1969 to 1972 as well as a Vice President and Honorary Life Member.

A regular at the club until recent times, attending our lunches and dinners, providing wise counsel in all matters rugby related, Robert has contributed greatly to the success of Sevenoaks rugby club, both past and present and we will carry his support forward with us in to the future.

We send our condolences to all his friends and family and to those in the wider rugby world, where so many will have felt fortunate to have met him.

Rob, a true Gent and an Oak through and through, will leave a gap on the sidelines forever more - a club man to the core, his support and counsel over the years in many aspects of club life, we shall miss his physical presence at every event that took place at the club.

Today we raise a glass to Rob, knowing he joins the rest of our supporters looking down on everything we do!

Mike Williams, 1940 to 2024

Sevenoaks Rugby Club was deeply saddened by the loss of Mike Williams, a pioneer of rugby who led our 1st XV to promotion to London 1 South and Kent Cup victory as Head Coach in 1997, who passed away in recent weeks.

Many Club members have fond memories of Mike, who was both a leader and an inspiration. Mike coached many Sevenoaks Rugby Club players as schoolboys at Sevenoaks School, in his role as Master in Charge of Rugby at Sevenoaks School. Many of us will have played alongside, or against Mike โ€“ as well as playing for Rosslyn Park and for Blackheath, he would turn out for the Whitney Buccaneers.

Mike was an early proponent of 7s Rugby and a point of intelligence and knowledge on all matters rugby-related. He readily shared his words of wisdom with patience and impact, including in hand written notes to players with their individual tasks in advance of matches.

Howard Pearl has kindly confirmed that although the Club's 1993/94 season started with no Head Coach, Mike was invited to take over the coaching duties after Christmas and continued as Head Coach through to the end of 97/98. During this period, the 1st XV were Kent 1 Champions in 94/95, gained promotion to London 2 South in 96/97 and were also Kent Cup winners that season.

We extend our thoughts and prayers to Mike's wife, Rose, and family.

Mike's funeral will take place at 10:00am 17 May, Bluebell Hill cemetery, with the wake at Sevenoaks Rugby Club.
