What an incredible season 2018/19 was for the Oaks U12s. We started in early September with an epic win at the Saracens tournament playing the final on the Allianz Park pitch at half time of the Sarries vs Bristol Bears Premiership match. Little did we know that this win would enable us to go on the pitch at Twickenham during half time of the Premiership final representing Saracens and meet Martin Johnson before the game!

Our three teams; the Lions, Cheetahs and Tigers competed hard throughout the season and won most of their games with some fantastic memories. On a cold and wet Saturday at the end of January we had the privilege of playing in a curtain raiser down at Brighton before the 1st XV match. We booked our own coach and supported the 1stXV during the match with our U12 lads leading the 1stXV in a rendition of ‘when the Oaks go marching in’ in the bar after the game. It was a lively coach back.

We had a great result in our first year of a competitive (at last!) Kent Cup. The Tigers won the Cup and the Cheetahs won the Bowl. We thought the Tigers had come second after they narrowly lost to TJs 1-0 on finals day. However, TJs drew one of their games and the Tigers won the rest of theirs scoring 13 tries versus TJs 3 tries. The Tigers ultimately won by 1 point. The Cheetahs won all their games in the Bowl to come away winners. Brilliant results followed by an enjoyable afternoon in the Raj Bari…

The season ended with a climatic tour to Great Yarmouth, where we all braved the elements and multiple seasons experience during the games. The lads played through sunshine and severe hail to win all their games at that tournament again. Luckily the sun shone for the Saturday evening fancy dress and the Sunday evening tour court.

We’d like to thank all the parents for their fantastic support throughout the year and the players for being such an amazing group of lads. We can’t wait to see what next season will bring.
