On a bright and beautiful sunny morning at the paddock the U13’s and U14’s formed a joint mixed sex rugby team and played our visitors RC Delft from the Netherlands. The following magnificent players represented Sevenoaks:

Delft has a total of 4 rugby clubs, making it unique in the Netherlands. The so-called Princes' City is full of passion for this sport and has nearly 400 members, making it one of the larger rugby clubs in the Netherlands. RC Delft is known as "citizen club" in Delft and the only rugby club in Delft with a youth department. The number of youth members is around 200 players and consists of players from 4 to 19 years old.

This game saw two mixed teams in age and sex play excellent end to end rugby. The younger players learning from their piers and the older players welcoming their younger team mates into a fully inclusive team, which was an absolute pleasure to watch and coach. Within a couple of minutes of play one couldn’t tell that this squad was a blend of two age groups. Our visitors Delft played excellent expansive rugby, shifting the ball between their mixed group from the pack to the wing and our guys and girl responded with their own style of formidable play we have become accustomed to at our club. We played a direct, fluid game of ruby showing good poise and skill throughout the game, overwhelming our visitors throughout the encounter.

The cohesion and support in play within the team was fantastic and it appeared that the squad had been playing all year together. Such is the strength in depth and togetherness of our rugby club, which bodes well for the future of Sevenoaks Rugby Club.
