Sevenoaks Rugby Under 12s enjoyed a strong showing by two squads, the Pumas and the Sharks, at Saracens Amateurs Festival in north London on Sunday 2 April 2016. Both sides won two and lost one match against strong opponents.

Pumas opened well with a 5-0 win against Hertford I. They next faced Wanstead and despite matching up in most departments were unable to convert early pressure into a try. In the second halft two outsize Wanstead players with the slope advantage cut through for two tries and Oaks lost 2-0. The Pumas came back with their heads up and beat Saracens 5-1 in their third and final match.

The Sharks also opened in fine form with a 4-0 victory over Brighton Blues. They next faced Hertfordshire County Champions Hemel Hempstead and, despite having the better of early exchanges, entered the half time break at 0-1 down. The margin was doubled by Hemel in the second half. The Sharks however saved their best for last and played some outstanding running rugby to earn a 5-1 win over Hertford II in their last match.

The festival was a great day out and credit must go to the organisers for the sunshine, time keeping, BBQ, medals for all players and all important ice cream stall. The nostalgia in the air as the lads enter their last few weeks as minis after a highly memorable and rewarding five years, was all the more poignant thanks to a 70s disco soundtrack booming out from the PA.

More than one parent was seen performing side steps and shimmies of their own on the touch line. R.E.S.P.E.C.T. and thank you as ever for your wonderful support.
