U15's Rugby Fun at the Paddock

Training this Sunday brought us magnificent weather, perfect ground conditions and an excellent attitude by our boys.

Running through our various stations of training, the boys were looking as sharp as ever this bright October Sunday Morning at the paddock.

The physical fitness and quick body response times is showing that our boys are becoming incredibly fit and agile, whilst we go through training moves, mini-games and fitness. These times are proving to be challenging for all rugby clubs to provide a balance of training, fun and safety but our boys manage to have bundles of enthusiasm which lifts the spirit and minds of all taking part.

This morning saw our boys enjoying the mud on a self motivated, socially distance, mud slide at the end of training. This brought smiles all round and some mild concern for the interiors of our chariots taking these fine young men home.

Well done boys for another excellent training session.

1st Class Training Session

On this bright autumnal morning, the U15’s were treated to a 1st class training session by the senior squad coaches, Nigel and Josh.

The session was held at Knole Academy; part of a rota system the club has in place to provide the maximum amount of space to train in a safe environment.

Our boys, thoroughly enjoyed the drills, skills and knowledge passed down to them by Nigel and Josh.

It was a fantastic morning and a great vibe all throughout- the drills were spot on and the boys were totally absorbed.

On behalf of the U15 coaches,

Nigel ,and Josh it was great of you to give up your Sunday morning for us and I hope you guys got as much out of it was we all did.

We very much look forward to having you back again and hopefully you’ll get a chance in the future to see the boys putting today’s coaching into practice.

Thank you.

Oaks win Kent Plate!

Oaks u15s were up against Medway in the Kent Plate Final. Oaks got off to a flying start by breaking through the Medway defence within the first couple of minutes. The second try one was on technical beauty; the back row collecting the ball in their own 22, pushing forward 10 yards, sucking in the defence before unleashing the backs with super quick hands and allowing the winger to sprint home. Despite giving away too many penalties at the breakdown, Medway could not capitalise or hold out Oaks who scored a further 3 tries. A rare lapse in defence did allow Medway to score but at HT Oaks were 33-5 up. The second half was a bit scrappy with Oaks still conceding needless penalties and Medway did score another try. But as the game progressed, Oaks were still strong against a tiring Medway team. Another 3 tries, the last another technically perfect execution in creating space and then quickly getting the ball wide.

At the final whistle, Oaks were 48-12 winners. A great performance with an aggressive defence, slick handling, cohesive team play and deadly finishing. Well done to all involved!

Oaks roll on

The u15s hosted Old Elthamians in a friendly match. The early encounters were pretty even with the windy conditions making the handling difficult for both sides. It was Oaks who broke the deadlock with 2 fine tries; fair reward for some slick running and creative backs moves. Old Es fought back and powered over, despite some dogged defence on the line just before the break and then added another try early in the second half to make it 14-12 to Oaks. But for the rest of the match it was Sevenoaks who controlled the game with some quick play and silky hands. Add to this some solid set play and tight defence, Old Es had no answer and conceded 3 more tries, all converted to make the final score 35-12 to Oaks

Oaks power into Kent Final

Oaks came out winners on a wet and windy March morning. It was a tough game with Bromley closing down the space quickly and being aggressive at the contact areas; a fully combative match. Bromley started the better with the majority of possession and territory but Oaks were holding out with a staunch defence up hill and against the wind. As the half went on Oaks managed to carve out a few chances and converted one just before half time, running back a loose kick. In the second half, Oaks very much dominated play by utilising different strategies to pin Bromley down and exert a lot of pressure. Oaks were rewarded with 2 tries with little threat of conceding to win the match 15-0 to progress to the final. This was a tough match in which Oaks worked really hard and the squad deserve a lot of credit for their all round performance

Oaks win Kent QF

Oaks progressed to the semi final of the Kent competition in wet and muddy conditions by beating Dartfordians. From the start, both teams were well organised in defence with the game primarily played around the 22 of the Darts half but with neither team making headway. Finally, Oaks broke the deadlock after 20 minutes and then quickly added to this with a well worked try following a deft nudge over the defence. Oaks then scored a third try just before half time to lead 15-0 at the break. But Darts were tenacious and capitalised on a poor clearance to close the gap. Oaks immediately hit back to restore their commanding lead before adding a penalty and another try to win 28-7. Great game of rugby in tough conditions played in totally the right spirit. Credit to both teams.

Oaks edge past Bromley

Oaks hosted Bromley in a friendly fixture. Oaks enjoyed the majority of possession and territory from the start but found that Bromley were tackling very well and were closing down the space effectively. Against the run of play, Bromley exploited a weakness in the Oaks defence to take the lead. Oaks did eventually break through before the break to make it 5-5 at HT and then went ahead mid way in the second half. However, Bromley responded and led by 2 points with minutes to go. Oaks stuck to it and were rewarded with a well worked try at the very end to win 17-12.

Oaks top Kent Cup group

Oaks won their last Kent Cup group match against Whitstable to finish top of their group. Oaks started brightly and soon crossed over only to be pegged back after the opposition seized on a slow defensive line speed. But it was not long before Oaks stamped their authority on the match and scored more tries through good hands, slick inter-play and solid set pieces to be up 31-5 at HT. A determined Whitstable side came out fighting after the break and caught the home side napping to score 2 tries very early on. This shook the Oaks team into action who then dominated there on in. Some attractive rugby saw Oaks run in further tries to win convincingly 53-17.

Oaks edge past Medway

Oaks travelled to Medway in a friendly match and started brightly to score under the posts within 5 minutes. The game then slowly swung in the favour of the hosts as Oaks dropped off in terms of their defensive shape and conceded a string of offside penalties. By HT, Medway were 26-14 up with Oaks struggling to deal with the larger opposition. The second half saw a massive turnaround. Oaks corrected all their issues and pinned down Medway for almost the entire half and were rewarded with 2 tries, the last one a well worked move by the forwards which was duly converted to put Oaks in the lead with just a few minutes remaining. Oaks won 28-26

Oaks continue winning streak

Oaks made it 4 in a row with an impressive display against Beckenham in the penultimate group match of the Kent Cup

Oaks started brightly but their eagerness led to numerous infringements; stepping offside and passing forward. However, the breakthrough finally happened within 7 minutes. This was then followed by a textbook catch and drive from a lineout near the opposition try line and another quick try to give Oaks a commanding 17-0 advantage within 17 minutes. Oaks continued to dominate and added 3 more tries without reply to win 36-0. The game was cut short due to an unfortunate injury to a Beckenham player (he is on the mend and we all wish him well).

Oaks now unassailably top the group with one match remaining

THREE ON THE BOUNCE FOR SEVENOAKS U15s

Sevenoaks u15s won their third Kent Cup match in a row to top the group. They were away to Tunbridge Wells who made a contest of it for quite a while, capitalising on Sevenoaks errors with some ruthlessness. Sevenoaks had started brightly with 2 tries within the first 5 minutes and were 3 tries to the good after 15 minutes. TWells came back and scored one try just before half time when Sevenoaks were down to 14 players following a yellow card. They then scored another just after the break, intercepting a wayward pass. It was then quite even until the last 15 minutes when Sevenoaks went through the phases and scored 3 more tries, conceding only 1.

Final score a resounding 42-17 win to Sevenoaks

Oaks win second Kent Cup game

A very solid performance today at Ashford in our 2nd Kent Cup group game. Oaks won convincingly 48-7. Fine ball handling and movement in the backs and sound forward play in the loose and in set plays; lineouts were excellent and in scrums we held our own against a bigger pack. All round good play from the team

Oaks win Kent Cup opener

The U15s kicked off their Kent Cup campaign with a stunning 48-5 victory over Sittingbourne. Almost from the kick off, Oaks touched down to open the scoring but then fluffed their lines a little for 10 minutes until it all came together with a flurry of tries to lead 38-0 at half time. Credit to the opposition who did not give up and came out fighting in the second half to put some points on the board. But there was no way back as Oaks added a couple of tries to end the game convincing winners
