Sevenoaks 2

For Sevenoaks 2 it was very much a morning of two halves at Beccehamian’s on Sunday.

The first two matches were simply a disaster.  It seemed that the team did not want to be there.  Very few of the players  were tackling, supporting the ball carrier or calling for the ball and as a result they lost 5 nil to Cranbrook and 7 nil to Tunbridge Wells.  The team was obviously very disappointed as all their heads were down and a few comments made by some of the players was suggesting they did not believe they could do any better.

Therefore, a very “firm” discussion was had before the 3rd match.  Whilst the skills that they needed to improve on were discussed, the most important message the coaches asked of the players was to show to them and their parents that they wanted to be there and show that they were trying and doing their best !!

Match 3 – Was like a different team on a different day.  Tackles were made forcing turnovers, passes were made, tries were scored, support play was almost in over supply and most importantly smiles were restored to the player’s faces.  A great 6 – 5 victory against Beckenham.

Match 4 – With self belief and smiles restored there was lots of positive attacking and support play resulting in a 6 – 4 victory against Old Whitgiftians.  A great way to finish a challenging morning.

The main lesson learnt on Sunday was not so much the skills of tackling, passing and supporting etc but all the players finding their self belief and desire to try their best.

Well done all of you – A superb turn around after a very difficult start !!
