Two keen squads headed down to Cranbrook festival on Sunday 25th October. After the usual jockeying for a parking space at this very popular and well run festival, the two teams played nine matches over a three and a half hour period. After the usual ‘slow out of the gates’ performance that has become our signature, both teams played some excellent rugger, setting themselves up well at restarts and beginning to show a consistent rush defence. With over half the squad new to SRFC this season and quite a few new to rugby altogether, both coaches were extremely proud of the way the players conducted themselves. Whilst there is plenty to work on, the ability to listen and develop their game during the festival is both confidence inspiring and extremely rewarding for coaches and parents alike. Most of the elements that need improving will come with both experience and the confidence that develops with it. A couple of the more experienced players led well with some good straight running and strong tagging, with a few tries lost due to the agreed ‘ball in two hands’ rule.
A good turn out and the usual excellent parental support made the day a fun and worthwhile event for both new and old hands at festivals. Well done all.
