Sevenoaks Rugby Club wants every local school to have the opportunity to play rugby. We also want the sport's values to extend beyond our Club and as far as possible into our local community.
With these aims as well as those of developing local talent and introducing new players in mind, in recent weeks Sevenoaks Rugby's very own 'Rugby World Championship' has been bringing the game to a brand new audience.
The Championship, in the form of a Tag Rugby Festival, brought together six local Primary Schools in a League on the 3G pitch at Knole Academy. Each school adopted an international team and played in that country's colours.
Across the course of the three week event it was a delight to observe the players develop skills and improve, both as an individual and as a team
Teams were made up of boys and girls from years 4, 5 and 6 (U9, U10 & U11) of all abilities for a hugely enjoyable and a successful initiative.
Nick Wilkinson, Rugby Development Officer, Sevenoaks Rugby said, "Thanks to outstanding feedback from players and parents and the continued support of our local schools the Championship is set to return even bigger and better next spring."
The Club extends a big thank you as well to all those volunteer Coaches for making this possible: Phil Kaye; Simon Sweeting; Mark Poole; Paul Vickers, and Grant Scandling. We would also like to thank Clare Strange - Sports Co-ordinator and PE Advisor at Knole Academy - for making the venue available and encouraging Schools to attend.
